"A compelling inspiration to the Southern Oregon wine industry, John continually raises the bar when it comes to quality and craftsmanship in the Rogue Valley." With a discerning taste and a formally trained palate, John brings over twenty years of enology and viticultural experience from Sonoma and Napa Valley to RoxyAnn Winery, where he has lead production with a refined focus and a faithful commitment to creating world-class wines reflective of the Rogue Valley's unique terroir.
Graduating University of California at Davis in 1986 with a degree in Fermentation Science and Enology, John began his career at Lyeth Estate Winery, a Sonoma County pioneer in the production of Bordeaux varietals. Following Lyeth Winery, John joined Clos Pegase Winery in Calistoga, Napa Valley, where he earned 15 scores of 90 points or more, from the Wine Spectator and Robert Parker, including a Cabernet Sauvignon, which was ranked as one of the, "Top 100 Wines of the World" by the Wine Spectator.
As John rapidly gained a reputation for consistently producing outstanding wines he was sought out by numerous wineries seeking his expertise. John began a winemaking consultation practice serving small ultra-premium producers from the hillsides of Diamond Mountain in Napa to the steep ridges of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
John brought his knowledge to RoxyAnn in 2009 because he saw the potential that existed in the region, RoxyAnn Winery in particular. Along with Jack Day, John introduced and implemented a state-of-the-art production facility mirroring techniques used in Napa Valley. He introduced Martin Mochizuki, a highly acclaimed Napa Valley viticulturist to the Southern Oregon region.
"I see Southern Oregon as an emerging wine region that has the potential to grow and produce world-class wines. I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it!"-John Q. ”
