GYPSY SOUL BIO
Gypsy Soul entertains, elevates and inspires passion by creating memorable musical experiences of deep connection.
A cross between Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne and Ray LaMontagne, Gypsy Soul’s sound ranges from Americana Soul to Acoustic Rock and Blues. Anchored by singer/lyricist Cilette Swann’s earthy and passionate three and a half octave vocals and composer/arranger Roman Morykit’s multi-instrumental virtuosity, Gypsy Soul excellence and depth leaves their audiences spellbound. They’ve sold out numerous theaters including Triple Door and Musical Instrument Museum.
Thirteen albums and half a million miles later, Gypsy Soul has forged an independent music career that has taken them all over the world, building up a loyal audience who’ve enabled them to sell 1.6 million downloads internationally and 140,000 CDs in the U.S. alone. You may have already heard their music on TV shows and movies such as Providence, Felicity, 90210, Roswell and After Sex that have aired globally. They’ve also received “Critic’s Choice” in over 60 publications nationally. Managing to raise $52,000 from two recent fan funding campaigns to help record and promote their lastest CD True, which was released on March 18, 2016.
Gypsy Soul have had a Top 40 hit at Adult Contemporary radio with “Silent Tears,” and scored in the Top 5 on many other radio charts. In their 15 year professional recording and touring career, they’ve won numerous independent music awards along the way, including the Independent Music Awards, International Acoustic Music Awards, Just Plain Folks and honors at Lilith Fair. All of this has been accomplished on their own with the loyal support of their many fans but without label, management, booking, PR or radio campaigns. They are the truest definition of an Indie Band – all heart and pure blood, sweat and tears.
Authentic and excellence are the words most often used to describe Gypsy Soul and their music. The duo’s multicultural heritage helps inform both their message and sound, attracting audiences with their soulful blend of Roots, Pop, Blues and Jazz. Their wistful story began in Scotland when Roman Morykit (UK) and Cilette Swann (Canada/US) made a promise to each other to make both their living and their lives from their art. “…they forge a musical journey of deep questions, curiosities and illuminations.” – Sue Ennis (Heart)
Like its creators, Gypsy Soul’s music is much like fine fusion cuisine…..Italian, Irish, South African and Ukrainian to be precise. As with any work of art, their music is born from heartache, struggle, love and determination infused with many textures, nuance and flavors. Their message is both universal and intimate – familiar yet otherworldly. “Gypsy Soul is gourmet music for music lovers.” – K-LOS Radio
Over their 19 year career, the pair have had a Top 40 hit with “Silent Tears” and have won numerous songwriting and performance awards including International Acoustic Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, Lilith Fair and others. They’ve earned over 1.6 million downloads and have sold out numerous theaters including Triple Door and Musical Instrument Museum. “Gypsy Soul is one of the most brilliantly instrumented and vocally adept bands alive and kicking.” – Orange County Weekly
